Rojava: Resistance as the only guarantee

In an interview, SDF press spokesman Ferhad Shami made it clear that without lifting the siege of Kobanê, the ceasefire agreement cannot be implemented. He further stated that the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) will defend their achievements and build a brigade in the course of integration. He also noted that there is still no general guarantee for a ceasefire except for the readyness of the population to rise up, in Kurdistan and worldwide. Ferhad Shami particularly emphasized the joint struggle of the Kurdish and Arab peoples, explaining that among the 12,000 SDF martyrs of the Rojava revolution, there are also 5,800 Arab martyrs.

Electricity restored in Kobanê

Last week’s negotiations succeeded in restoring electricity to Kobanê. After 22 days of siege, the first step toward improving the humanitarian situation has been taken. The UN has also launched an investigation into looting in the villages of Kobanê by jihadists. At the same time, thousands of people took to the streets in some cities of Rojava to protest for their rights, demand a just constitution in Syria, and express the common will of the Kurdish people.

US meets to discuss the Kurdish question

The US Senate met today to discuss about the US position on protecting Kurdish society. While a decision could also have positive results, the US seems to prepare for an intervention in Iraq. The 4,500 IS prisoners who were brought to Iraq also pose a threat there. A resurgence of ISIS could lead to a repeated genocide like what happened in the Yazidi region of Shengal in 2014.

Israel strengthens influence in Syria

While Israeli control in southern Syria is growing stronger and new checkpoints have been set up in Quneitra, Israel has also carried out air strikes on jihadist groups in the vicinity of the capital Damascus.

Suweida

In Suweida today, the victims of the attacks of the last few days were remembered, in which four civilians were killed and two others were injured. The attacks by the HTS regime regularly result in deaths, as was the case yesterday.
