Scottish trade union for Rojava
The Scottish trade union STUC, with its 550,000 members, has met to discuss Rojava and decided to organize solidarity. They welcomed the ceasefire agreement and at the same time condemned the violence of the Syrian regime. From now on, they will organize humanitarian aid for Rojava and want to build political pressure to thwart the war against Rojava. In addition, a representative of Scotland’s largest trade union, UNISON, has also announced that he will meet with Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney to advocate for Rojava’s status and put pressure on London.
Asayîsh takes over frontline positions
As agreed in the ceasefire agreement, the SDF has begun handing over its positions on the front line to the internal security forces Asayîsh. The handover of positions serves to defuse tensions while maintaining the capacity for self-defense. On the other hand, HTS is delaying the process by not yet withdrawing from areas such as Al-Hol and also delaying the prisoner exchange. It is believed that HTS has already executed a large number of prisoners of war.
Help for Kobanê
After persistent protests and diplomatic pressure, 25 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid have finally arrived in Kobanê. The trucks were dispatched from Amed in Northern Kurdistan by the “Platform for Defense and Solidarity” and were initially stopped by the Turkish state. The aid is a first step, but the siege of Kobanê continues.
Protests in Deir ez-Zor
The situation is coming to a head in the Arab city of Deir ez-Zor, which was taken over by HTS after six years of self-administration. People are protesting against the Syrian regime, which has closed the region’s oil refineries. Instead, the oil is now being taken to refineries in Idlib, which is on the other side of Syria. The local population is not to share in the profits.
US closes base
The US military is withdrawing from its position in Tenefê to Jordan. The strategic base on the border between Syria, Jordan, and Iraq was established in 2014 for the fight against ISIS. The fact that they are now withdrawing shows that HTS control of Syria is in the interests of the US.
