25.01. – 12:00 CET Days of Action in Defense of Rojava start today
Global Call for Solidarity: Days of Action in Defense of Rojava start today continuing until 01.02.2026
Today marks the start of Global Action Days, which will continue until February 1, 2026. As part of this, RiseUp4Rojava, Women Defend Rojava, and the 183 organizations and 72 individuals who have already signed the call are calling for organizing actions, creating a counter-public sphere in the media, holding national governments and international institutions responsible, and demanding political and legal recognition and status for the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Further important days of action are January 26. and January 31.
January 26, 2015, marks the victory and liberation of Kobanê from ISIS, which is now attacking again with other jihadist groups. Actions are to take place on this day in the frame of a “Kobanê Action Day.” On January 31, all women and democratic forces are called upon to join actions under the slogan “Women Defend Rojava” to defend the women’s revolution. The achievements of the women’s revolution are currently under massive attack by the ISIS mentality of the al-Jolani regime, which is seeking to destroy the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî philosophy. However, the women’s revolution is not only a hope for the Middle East but for the entire world, and without the liberation of women, there can be no liberation of society. Kobane is still at risk of genocide
Aram Eli, who works as a pharmacist in Kobane, told the Hawar news agency that hospitals that previously treated 800 patients a day are now only able to treat emergencies due to the hostilities. Many medicines eg. supplies of medication for high blood pressure, cancer, and diabetes had declined sharply and the dialysis department had been completely shut down; especially children’s medicines can no longer be obtained.
Furthermore, the delivery of basic necessities and medication is not permitted. Aram Eli said, “The war is ongoing. There are too many wounded, and we have no means to operate.
[…] Some wounded have died because there was no medicine.”
At the end of his speech, Aram Eli called for the siege to be lifted immediately.
Situaiton is tense despite “ceasefire”
The Autonomous Administration announced that the military threat continues in the region despite the extension of the ceasefire for 15 Days. It further calls for the highest level of alertness and to take the necessary security measures. Still the city of Kobanê is under a heavy siege and in need of a humanitarian corridor.
Although the ceasefire has been extended, the threat of attack continues. Militia groups affiliated with HTS have violated the ceasefire before.
There are reports about ISIS and HTS cells in Heseket who try to undermine the internal security by attacking the defense and security forces. However the defense forces continue to keep the neighborhoods safe, due to the cooperation with residents and social defense forces that continue with high morale, dedication and great faith.
The Institutions of the Autonomous Administration are working intensively to settle tens of thousands of refugee families. Tens of thousands of people forced to flee from Afrin, Shehba, Raqqa, Tabqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Shadad have taken refuge in the Cizir Canton. Hundreds of young people from Kurdistan headed to Rojava to join the resistance there. Kurds in Europe continue to support Rojava with demonstrations. Parties in Rojava have called on all Kurds around the world to stand up.
