22.01.2026 – 20:00 CET – Resistance in Kobanê continues as snow sets in
Suruç marches towards Kobanê
In Suruç in North Kurdistan, thousands of people gathered in order to show solidarity to break the siege imposed on the city of Kobanê.
Even before they could leave the city, the demonstration was attacked by Turkish police deployed in the city.
At the same time, heavy snowfall set in, worsening the situation of the population within the city. In the meantime in the resistance in the outskirts of the city SDF fighters destroyed multiple vehicles belonging to Islamist militias. In Hannover and Cologne two press conferences will be held to start the action. The rallies in Hannover and Cologne mark the beginning of the People’s Caravan and draw attention to the war crimes and the comeback of ISIS in Syria.
In a press conference from besieged Kobanê, YPJ Commander Nesrîn Abdullah stressed the importance of the resistance waged against the Islamist attacks. “Our defeat would mean the defeat of all peoples of Syria!”
Despite the ceasefire that was declared two days ago, attacks against the self-administered regions continued in both Kobanê and the Hasakah region. The SDF counted 22 violations of the ceasefire, including repeated attacks on the besieged Aqtan Prison, where SDF fighters remain even after more than a day after food supplies ran out.
The prison houses up to 5000 ISIS members, who might be freed should the prison be conquered by Islamist militias.
Protests Continue
